RYHT & Rice REEP Partnership
RYHT believes that human capital is vital to improving student achievement. As funding becomes more limited for high quality professional development, RYHT wants to ensure that Texas public school leaders are continuing to be supported and strengthened.
We are partnering with Rice University’s Educational Entrepreneurship Program (REEP), one of the nation’s foremost K-12 leadership initiatives, to train and support Houston-area principals.
2011 Summer Institute
RYHT, REEP and Alief ISD partnered over the summer of 2011 to provide six campus leaders from Alief ISD the opportunity to attend a three-week REEP Summer Institute at Rice. The purpose of the institute is to teach education leaders how to apply managerial knowledge to their campus in innovative ways.
Participating school leaders and their campuses are:- Nancy Trent, Youens Elementary
- Ting-Ling Sha, Martin Elementary
- Vinson Lewis, Alief Middle
- Chris Pichon, Landis Elementary
- Andy Velasquez, Owens Intermediate
- Steven Speyrer, Elsik High School
To further develop the summer learning, the REEP faculty is working with the Alief ISD cohort as they draft and present achievement-oriented innovation projects over the course of the 2011-12 school year.
2012-13 Business Fellowship Program
The REEP Business Fellowship offered through Rice University Jones Graduate School of Business offers a unique, multidisciplinary approach that goes beyond the traditional educational framework. The program is 12 months long. Graduates complete the program well-versed in the business, innovation, organization and financial management tools they need to develop hands-on solutions to effect powerful change.
RYHT will pay all tuition expenses for a select cohort of Houston-area principals within feeder patterns.
