Les Simpson
Region 13 Secondary Teacher of the Year
I have just been informed that Les Simpson has been named Region 13 Secondary Teacher of the year. This is the first time in Manor ISD history a teacher has been named Region 13 teacher of the year. He is now eligible for the State secondary teacher of the year.
Les is a dynamic teacher who is loved by his students and highly respected by his peers. Before starting his teaching career, he worked as a radio journalist for Clear Channel Radio Networks and wrote as a freelancer for several publications. His teaching philosophy is best echoed in the Latin phrase "Doce ut discas" (Teach that you may learn) because he has learned something from each of the brilliant, talented, and wonderful students he is lucky enough to work with every day.
This past year his students have won several video awards, he has been recognized as "Teacher Who Makes A Difference" by Fox 7 news in April, and he was recognized for "technological innovations in the classroom" by the Apple Store at The Domain. In July, Les chaperoned 5 Manor New Tech High School students through a song writing/music video project on the John Lennon Music Bus.
Les was at Manor Middle School last year and his students begged him to go to New Tech High School this year.
I hope you join me in congratulating Les.
We have a lot of work to do this year but I think with teachers like Les who make a difference in our children's lives, the journey to exemplary is secured.
