Job Purpose:

The Data Insights Manager is responsible for collecting data, designing data systems, and developing visualizations to communicate data internally and externally. Under the Strategy and Evaluation department, this position will support the strategies of our policy, programs, and marketing teams to analyze and communicate data. The Data Insights Manager will also provide key insights on statewide education data as it relates to the organization’s mission and goals. The Manager reports to the Vice President of Strategy and Evaluation and works collaboratively with each department to address their data analysis needs.


  • Create compelling external-facing data visualizations for a range of advocacy, policy, and research-related topics in collaboration with various divisions of the organization.
  • Conduct a thorough audit of the organization’s existing data and make recommendations for new database architecture, development, collection, management, analysis, and reporting.
  • Provide data in an accessible and relevant way to internal departments to inform decision-making and goal-setting.
  • Manage future database operations, utilization, and expansion.
  • Support departmental Key Performance Indicators through data analysis and make recommendations for growing the organization’s evaluative functions.
  • Work with various divisions of the organization to support external evaluations and reports.


  • Bachelor’s degree in statistics, computer science, market research, educational research, or related field; graduate degree a plus
  • 5+ years of experience managing data architecture, management, and visualization projects, particularly in an educational setting
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively to explore, develop, and deliver solutions to data needs
  • Strong skills for researching, analyzing, modeling, and reporting on quantitative and qualitative mixed methods data in support of departmental projects, and advising top decision-makers
  • Fluency using statistics and visualizations to answer specific questions about datasets
  • Experience collaborating with creative teams on appealing and effective visualizations of data
  • Demonstrated flexibility and creativity necessary for building a system from the ground up
  • Strong knowledge of information retrieval programs and tools such as Excel, Data Analysis Java, SQL, SPSS, Stata, R, Qualtrics, and data visualization tools such as Tableau
  • Attention to detail and strong project management skills with a self-directed approach
  • Excellent oral and written skills, and adept at presenting complicated information in a compelling and straightforward manner
  • Commitment to the organization’s mission and the role of data in furthering the mission
