Tomás Sigala Jr., Ed.D.

Regional Advocacy Director – El Paso/Trans-Pecos

Dr. Tomás Sigala Jr. joined the Raise Your Hand Texas Foundation as the regional advocacy director for El Paso/Trans-Pecos in fall 2019. He is a higher education and career advocate deeply committed to helping others achieve success through the opportunities afforded through earning a post-secondary credential and/or degree. He has over 10 years of experience working in public schools as a teacher, student activities director, and facilitator for college and career readiness. He also has higher education experience working as an admissions and financial aid counselor and co-teaching several courses at a local university.

Dr. Sigala earned his Doctorate in Education (EdD) in education leadership and administration in 2016 from the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). His research focused on the realities of implementing education policy among border communities and he was selected as a Barbara L. Jackson Scholar. He also holds a master’s degree in higher education from UTEP.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in communication studies in 2003 from the University of Texas at Austin, where he was named a Gateway Scholar and served as a Bill Archer Fellow in Washington, D.C.
