One is an opera singer on the side. One was an environmental scientist. Another says math changed her life. The Charles Butt Scholarship for Aspiring Teachers recipients are not only impressive students, but they are also inspiring individuals. Each scholar has a unique motivation for becoming a teacher. Collectively, they represent the next generation of great educators.
Our inaugural Charles Butt Scholars Symposium brought together students from 10 universities around Texas who have been selected to receive the Charles Butt Scholarship for Aspiring Teachers. The weekend at Lost Pines was filled with thought-provoking sessions, engaging conversations, team-building activities, and well-known speakers.
May 6-10 is National Teacher Appreciation Week. This week, we released a new series, and several new pieces, to honor the importance of teachers. We hope you’ll take some time to enjoy them, to share them with your friends, and to thank your favorite teacher.
If you go by statistics, Raquel Perez wasn’t supposed to be a success story. She wasn’t supposed to be an educational inspiration. Raquel is a migrant farmworker from one of the poorest regions in the country. She never experienced a complete school year in one state.
