Next Steps

1. Watch for Travel Details

You will arrive in Boston on the day before your institute begins and depart the day it concludes. You are expected to attend a welcome dinner on the day of your arrival. During your time in Cambridge, you will be staying at the Charles Hotel. Remember, you are responsible for your ground transportation to and from the airport in both Texas and Boston. Since the Charles Hotel does not offer an airport shuttle, your ground transportation options include: take a taxi, use an Uber/Lyft ride or public transportation.

You will receive an email from Cathy Cornett at Corporate Travel Planners with flight details once your flight has been booked. If you have not received your flight information, please email Briana Mascitelli.

2. What to Pack

As a representative of your district, Raise Your Hand Texas, and our great state, we ask that you dress professionally while attending the sessions and all Harvard-related events. Casual dress is welcomed at all Raise Your Hand Texas evening activities.

If you are attending either The Art of Leadership or Leadership, an Evolving Vision Institutes, the second day of the session you will need athletic clothing and shoes.

3. Promote Your Sponsorship to Harvard

To assist you in sharing the good news about your participation in the Harvard summer institutes, we are providing several resources to you:

Be sure to connect with us on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, and tag us in any posts. You can also tag the Harvard Graduate School of Education: @HGSE on Twitter and @HarvardEducation on Facebook.

If you have questions on any of this, or if you’d prefer we reach out to your local media, please reach out to Petri Darby, VP of Marketing for Raise Your Hand Texas, at pdarby@ryht.org.

4. Confirm Harvard Registration and Log into Canvas

In the coming weeks, you will receive an email from Harvard indicating that you have been registered for the institute. This email will contain information about how to register for a Canvas account. Canvas is the learning management system used by Harvard. All Harvard session materials will be housed in Canvas, including the pre-readings that must be reviewed prior to the first session.

5. Prepare for Harvard

Family Engagement in Education:
In preparation for the institute, please review your family engagement analysis and redesign exercise you submitted as a part of the application process and refine the challenge statements for each domain (i.e. culture, home to school connection, etc.) you want to redesign in the 2017-2018 school year. This learning opportunity will be used to develop strategies for addressing your identified challenges in each domain.

Raise Your Hand Texas and Harvard will be sending you pre-work to complete prior to the institute. In preparation, please schedule a time to meet with your team two to four weeks before the institute. While a lot of the pre-work can be done independently, we highly encourage you to work as a team to complete.

All other Institutes:

In preparation for the institute, please review the persistent problem essay you submitted as a part of the application process and decide on one campus-level problem you think must be addressed in the 2018-2019 school year. This learning opportunity will be used to develop strategies for addressing your identified problem. Additionally, you are expected to identify one professional growth opportunity that you plan to focus on in the 2018-2019 school year.

Please create a Google Drive folder titled:
[YOUR CAMPUS NAME HERE] – 2017 Raise Your Hand Texas Leadership Program.

In that folder, create a Google document titled “Persistent Problems” and list the persistent problem(s) and the professional growth opportunities you selected. Please share the folder and Google documents with Cody Huie at chuie@ryht.org

If you are attending School Turnaround Leaders or The Art of Leadership, Raise Your Hand has invited a representative from your local education service center to attend this institute. This person will support Raise Your Hand by providing follow-up support to your campus throughout the year.

6. Keep Your Information Updated

If your contact information has changed since submitting your application and/or may change in the forthcoming weeks, please contact let us know: Update Your Contact Info.

7. Check Back Here for Updates

This page will be updated regularly. Please check back to stay updated on program details.

We wish you the best as you conclude this school year and look forward to seeing you on the campus of Harvard University!
