New Story: Lessons From a Leader’s Journey

February 14, 2020 |

We have created a lot of leadership stories over the years. We can’t help it. School leaders inspire us. That’s why we’ve sent more than 1,300 to the Harvard Graduate School of Education Principals’ Center over the past 12 years.

This alumni’s story is different. One, she is still deep in school turnaround work. She hasn’t reached her goals. Her campus hasn’t achieved “success” — yet.

Two, she chose to go to a place many avoid. She’s at a school that historically struggles in a neighborhood that historically struggles. But Erika Carter is well aware, and she’s up for it.

After all, she’s from the same neighborhood as her students.
