Alumni Regional Director — Volunteer

Title: Alumni Regional Director
Location: All 20 Education Service Center Regions

Purpose: The purpose of the Raise Your Hand Texas Alumni Regional Director is to unite our alumni of over 1,300 Texas educators in their regions to build a network of school leaders engaged in professional development and continuous improvement for public schools.

Although this is a volunteer position, Alumni Regional Directors serve as a leader in their region to promote Raise Your Hand Texas initiatives, coordinating existing alumni member events, facilitating professional development opportunities, and providing valuable input for developing the network., coordinating existing alumni member events, facilitating professional development opportunities, and providing valuable input for developing the network.

Key Commitments of the Alumni Regional Director Include:

  1. Organizing, coordinating, and facilitating a minimum of one regional meeting per semester (Fall and Spring)
  2. Participating in monthly 30-60 minute virtual meetings with all Regional Directors, facilitated by Raise Your Hand Texas staff
  3. Assist with and attend the annual Leadership Symposium
  4. Assist with and attend one of the Charles Butt Scholarship Interview Days
  5. Potentially assist Raise Your Hand Texas during one of the Harvard summer institutes
  6. Minimum 3-year appointment


  • Current seated principal, and Raise Your Hand Texas alumnus
  • Proven track record of success as a leader
  • Experience in leading and/or collaborating with other principals, community members
  • A commitment to participating in Raise Your Hand Texas events
  • Highly organized with the ability to prioritize multiple functions and tasks
  • Excellent overall communication skills: oral, written, presentation
  • Experience in group facilitation preferred, such as Critical Friends Group Training, PLC, etc.

Personal Skills:

  • Self-motivated and proactive 
  • Strong work ethic, self-starter, and the ability to tolerate ambiguity
  • Team player who can operate in a collegial manner 
  • Flexible and adaptable 
  • Ability to work independently and to multi-task 
  • Thorough, with good attention to detail 
  • Interacts with others in a professional and collaborative manner 
  • Confidentiality in the management of information and data


  • Reimbursement for travel to and from the Leadership Symposium, and regional site visits
  • Reimbursement for food and beverage at a regional site visit
  • Possible professional development opportunities

Top applicants will be selected for interviews with the Raise Your Hand Texas team, which will be held during the afternoon of Wednesday, February 26 (the first day of the 2020 Leadership Symposium). Final decisions will be made by Monday, March 30.
