Sophie Torres joined the Raise Your Hand Texas team on September 2020 as Regional Advocacy Director for the San Antonio-area. The importance of education was instilled in Sophie from a very young age, particularly from her parents but perhaps most notably by her father who only a 3rd grade education. He understood that educational attainment provided avenues to future economic success. Sophie became a first generation college student and graduating from Texas A&M University with a Bachelors in Spatial Science. While studying at A&M, Sophie participated in an internship at the U.S. House of Representatives that changed her career path to one of advocacy and public policy. Before moving home to San Antonio, she served in the offices of Congressman Charlie Gonzalez and Pete Gallego.
Sophie and her husband Al are proud to call downtown San Antonio home. You can find them exploring their city with their two chihuahua mixes, Chewy and Chapo.
