Statement on Long-Range Steering Committee Recommendations

Raise Your Hand Texas applauds the tireless work of the members of the Long-Range Plan for Public Education Steering Committee and we support their recommendations. We share their goals for all students to have access and equity in opportunities to prepare for college, career, and beyond. And we believe the first step to achieving those goals is to build a quality foundation for learning.

“The research is clear. Investing in high-quality, full-day pre-k prepares students to be kindergarten-ready and reduces the achievement gap before it starts,” said Dr. Michelle Smith, Director of Governmental Relations at Raise Your Hand. “With the challenges a majority of students bring to the classroom, Texas must commit now to long-term support for full-day pre-k. This, paired with strategic family engagement and rigorous, clinical teacher preparation, can ensure all students have a fair shot at success in school and in life.”
