Statement on House Bill 3

March 05, 2019

Texas House Public Education Committee Chair Huberty on Tuesday, March 4, 2019 filed House Bill 3, to address school finance needs across the state.

“Raise Your Hand Texas praises Chairman Huberty, Speaker Bonnen, and other House members for their initial work on House Bill 3. This landmark legislation provides meaningful and significant new investments in public education, a smart and uniform approach to property tax relief, and a strong commitment to full-day pre-K for eligible four-year-old students. The increase in the basic allotment addresses many priorities, including giving districts the flexibility and autonomy they need to better serve students and pay our teachers more. We appreciate that House leaders did not tie funding to high-stakes tests and believe the bill has a stronger chance of passage as a result. Raise Your Hand believes this bill has the potential to dramatically improve our public schools and we look forward to continuing our work with lawmakers toward passage.”
