Angelica Reyes Johnsen serves as the executive assistant and office manager at Raise Your Hand Texas. She joined in 2024, bringing over a decade of experience in education advocacy, nonprofit leadership, and public policy. She supports the executive leadership team while ensuring the efficiency of day-to-day operations. Her expertise in organization, stakeholder engagement, and public policy aligns seamlessly with Raise Your Hand Texasâ mission.Â
Johnsen was honored to be mentored by the Honorable Irma Rangel, the first Latina to serve in the Texas House of Representatives, who instilled in her the importance of public service and advancing education equity in marginalized districts. She furthered this passion by working alongside public education leaders like Commissioner Raymund Paredes, whose vision for equitable access to higher education continues to inspire her.
From teaching financial literacy to migrant families to founding a social enterprise supporting Mayan schools in rural Guatemala, Johnsenâs personal journey as a first-generation immigrant inspires her dedication to public education and advocacy for underserved communities. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from St. Edwardâs University. A proud PTA parent of public school students, Johnsen actively supports her younger son in a bilingual program and her high school football player. When not working on advocacy, she enjoys life in the Texas Hill Country, tending to her chickens and spending time with her pet pig, Pixie.
