David Wiechmann joined Raise Your Hand in April 2022 with more than 15 years of experience in public relations and communications. As a member of the communications team, he works closely with the policy and advocacy teams to guide the organization’s external messaging on policy, legislation, and issues facing our public schools.

Prior to Raise Your Hand, Wiechmann worked at Pflugerville ISD as a communications specialist, winning multiple awards for his writing from the Texas School Public Relations Association, including a Star Awards best in category. He also has many years of experience in the fast-paced world of collegiate athletics, working with world-class coaches and athletes to promote their accomplishments from conference championships to Olympic medals. His promotional efforts helped campaign Courtney Okolo to win the 2016 Bowerman Award, considered the Heisman Trophy of track and field.

Wiechmann has a Bachelor of Arts in print journalism from Texas Tech University as well as a master’s from Texas Tech in strategic communication and innovation. He is a proud product of Texas public schools and the brother of a veteran public school teacher of more than 20 years. He and his wife, Meaghan, live in Georgetown with their adopted son and biological daughter. When they are not planning their next trip to Disney World, they enjoy trying new restaurants and playing board games with friends and family.
